New procedure for sending your home schooling notice

We thank HSLDA for providing us
this useful information to share with our members.

We would like to inform you of certain changes made to the procedures for transmitting your notice on homeschooling for the 2019-2020 school year. The Home Education Department (DEM) has asked families to submit their opinion, both to the DEM and to their school board.

As stipulated in Article 3 of the 2018 Home Schooling Regulations, “The notice must be sent to the Minister and the relevant school board no later than (…) July 1 of each year”. Last year, when the Homeschooling Regulation came into effect for the first year, the DEM took it upon itself to forward the notifications received from families to the appropriate school boards. This year, parents were instead asked to send this notice themselves directly to the school boards, as provided for in the Regulation.  Vous trouverez ci-joint le formulaire de notification

for the 2019-2020 school year. Your opinion must be sent to the DEM and to your school board no later than July 1, 2019.

Route this notice as follows:

  1. To the DEM: You can send your opinion electronically via the homeschool portal: http://www.education.gouv.qc.ca/en/school-boards/support-and-assistance/homeschooling/http://www.education.gouv.qc.ca/en/school-boards/support-and-assistance/homeschooling/. You can also download the notification form and send it to DEM by post:Department of Home Education
Ministry of Education and Higher Education
    600 Fullum Street, 11th Floor
    Montreal (Quebec) H2K 4L1
  2. To your school board: You can send your notive to your school board by mail or email. Contact details for your school board can be found at the following address: http://www.education.gouv.qc.ca/en/find-a-school-board/ You can download the attached notification form and send it to your school board by registered mail; you can also call your school board and ask which email address your notice should be sent to. If you choose to email the notice to your school board, include the following in your message: “Please acknowledge receipt of this email and the attached notice.”

Stay tuned as we keep you informed of all the news for the upcoming school year, as well as the draft regulation proposed by Minister Roberge. We expect the Official Rules to be released very soon and will contact you after we have analyzed them. In the meantime, if you have any questions about the notification notice or how to send it, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
