Mathematics Workshops

IMPORTANT :

These workshops will be conducted entirely in French

If you prefer, you could get in touch with Mr. Andrew Frazer for private 1-on-1 math tutoring in English.  Look him up in the tutoring section of our professionals and specialists web page.

ACPEQ offers its members a series of five (5) 45-minute workshops in mathematics, during which the competencies “Reasoning with Mathematical Concepts and Processes” and“Solving a Problem Situation”will be worked on.

We have grouped the levels as follows:

  • One or two groups of grade 5 and 6 ;
  • A group for high school year 1 and 2;
  • A group for high school year 4 CST (an SN student could also register).

Since each family makes its own choice of school materials, the concepts covered are not in the same sequence for all home school students. The best way to make these workshops useful for as many people as possible is to work on the “reasoning” skill first, a skill that most often deals with 2 or 3 mathematical concepts at a time. Four (4) of the five (5) workshops target this competency and are distributed throughout the school year. In April, the final workshop will be held on the “Solving a Problem Situation” competency, which focuses on more mathematical concepts. Living this workshop later in the year will give as many people as possible the chance to take advantage of it.

Meet the teacher:

Denyse Gilbert has taught high school mathematics for more than 30 years. She began her career at Renaissance School and then continued her career at the Commission Scolaire des Premières Seigneuries in the Quebec City area. Very familiar with home schooling, she has been involved in it by offering math support on many occasions and by acting as a tutor for some children. Now retired, she proposes to equip your young people in the best possible way so that they can give their best when solving mathematical problems. She shares the tricks she’s accumulated over the course of her career, for the benefit of as many people as possible.

Costs :

  • 125 $ per level
  • Discount of 10$ on the total price for 2 registrations per family
  • Discount of 20$ on the total price for 3 registrations per family

To participate:

The workshops will take place on Zoom. You must therefore make sure you have :

  • A good internet connection
  • Access to Zoom
  • A headset with microphone
  • Paper and pencils

Please note that the tutor will not be available to deal with any technical problems you may experience in your home. It is therefore recommended that you thoroughly test your devices before logging in to the course.

Students will need to be online 10 minutes before the start of the workshops to ensure that everything is running smoothly.

Parents may attend the workshops if they wish.

Grades available:

Elementary grades 5 and 6*

* Since the Grade 5 and Grade 6 mathematics objectives overlap, the groups are made up of students from both grades.
