Upcoming events and announcements

Dear Members and Friends,

This communiqué is in two parts. In the first part, I would like to remind you of three important upcoming events in September. Get your agendas ready!

1- The general assembly, to be held in Montreal on September 15. We hope to see many of you participating, joining with us to add your contribution to the future of home schooling. SVP cliquez ici pour vous inscrire. (Moreinfo here)

2- The National Home Education Conference,to be held in Ottawa from September 26 to 28. Please click here to register.

3- The learning project for the 2019-2020 school year must be submitted to the DEM by September 30 at the latest. We are working closely with the HSLDA to prepare a template that meets the requirements of the new regulations.

In the second part of this communiqué, I would like to give you some news about your association:

1- First of all, please be aware that we continue to work with the HSLDA lawyers both in the preparation of the above-mentioned template and in the understanding and interpretation of the new regulations. We are also collaborating with other associations: AEJEM and AQED. Together, the four groups are doing their best to support you in preparing for the new school year.

2- On this subject, if you have any doubts or questions, do not hesitate to let me know. I will be happy to respond or find the information needed if necessary.

3- I had a discussion last week with the director of the DEM. She assures us of her full support in working with our families to ensure the best implementation and smooth functioning of our home learning. That being said, we are asked to remind you to send your homeschooling notice by July 1 of each year. If you have not already done so for the 2019-2020 school year, we invite you to do so without delay by consulting the DEM website.

4- Change is happening within our Board of Directors. After more than 10 years of loyal service, Lois and Bernie Meier will be stepping down from the Board on September 30. However, they will continue as organizers of the graduation for the year 2020. On behalf of President Ivan Cyr, the Board of Directors and all the members of the Association, we thank them from the bottom of our hearts for their commitment, dedication, contribution and influence on the entire home school community. We love you and wish you the best as you take on new challenges according to the will of our Lord.

5- In the same vein, President Ivan Cyr wishes to announce the arrival of a new couple to the Board of Directors. They are Sylvie Vandevoorde and David Maurais from the Estrie region. Sylvie herself was educated at home for the end of high school, while David was homeschooled from primary through high school. They teach their 4 children who range from 10 to 14 years old. We welcome them!

6- The Board is also in communication with other couples to fill some positions that have become vacant over the years. Let us pray that the Lord will provide according to His will.

In closing, I wish you all a good start to the school year. May God’s happiness and grace be with you every day.
