Mid-term report and interaction with the DEM

mid-term report

Dear members and friends of ACPEQ,

Recall

You must demonstrate to the Minister that your learning project is implemented and that your child is progressing according to his abilities and his learning plan.

Submission of the status report on the implementation of the learning project and the mid-term report

As stipulated by the Home Schooling Regulation in Articles 11 and 16, you must provide the Minister with a status report and a mid-term report between the 3rd and 5th months after the implementation of the project. your child’s learning.

For example, for a learning project implemented on September 30, the status report must be submitted between December 30, 2018 and February 28, 2019.
(Homeschooling – Questions and answers – Monitoring and homeschooling – What steps should parents take if they choose to homeschool their children for the 2018-2019 school year?)

The status report must indicate the learning activities carried out by subject or discipline, the approximate time allocated to them and, if applicable, any changes made to the learning project. The mid-term report takes stock of your child’s learning progress and mentions the means used to assess progress. These two reports can be combined into one document.

The Direction de l’enseignement à la maison, offers a certain number of documents.

Interaction with the DEM

The role of the DEM is to […] ensure [r] the follow-up of home education. The follow-up consists of receiving the opinion sent to the Minister, examining the child’s learning project as well as ensuring the application of the requirements relating to the implementation of this project and the evaluation of progress. of the child.
(Homeschooling – Questions and answers – General questions – Who should parents contact about homeschooling? What are the roles of the Ministère and the school boards? )

The DEM ensures compliance with the requirements of Law 144. Its role is not to assess your learning plan or to assess your child’s progress. She makes sure that your learning project meets the requirements and that your child is progressing in their learning. Your child’s assessment remains your responsibility.

The options for the assessment provided for in Article 15 of the Regulation are:

  1. an evaluation by the competent school board, including an examination by the school board;
  2. an evaluation by a private educational institution;
  3. an evaluation by the holder of a teaching license;
  4. an examination by the Ministry;
  5. a portfolio.

What to do in case of unreasonable  demands by the DEM or your school board  ?

Contenu du portfolio

Currently in circulation, the document concerning the content of the portfolio requested by the DEM seems excessive to us. We invite you to be vigilant since neither the law nor the regulations specify the explicit content of the portfolio. We believe that it is up to the parents to determine the modalities of the assessment and by extension the content of the portfolio.

ACPEQ maintains that the assessment of children is an integral part of the educational process and that, therefore, parents have the ultimate right and responsibility to determine the modalities of the assessment.(Qui nous sommes / Notre philosophie)

ACPEQ defends your interest.

The Commission scolaire des Trois-Lacs recently sent a letter to parents of homeschooled children. The letter contained incorrect instructions. ACPEQ intervened and according to our information, the situation should be corrected shortly.

When your requests appear excessive, we ask you to immediately notify ACPEQ so that we can intervene on your behalf. The sooner we are aware of these situations, the better able we will be to help you and contribute to respect for homeschooling in Quebec. We are making history, be one of those who will influence the outcome of the next generation of homeschooling practices.
